Beyond Neutrality supports organizations to respond to unionization in a way that is pro-union, anti-racist and mission-driven. Managers and leaders of mission-focused organizations may access information and tools here, as they work through the stages of unionization.

Neutrality is a term used to describe an employer’s obligation to remain “neutral” when staff are choosing to form a union. This stands in contrast to the common response by United States employers, to actively thwart unionization efforts. But even neutrality is not enough to transform an arduous and painful process into one that is liberatory and beneficial to all.  To overcome an entrenched culture of white supremacy and union-busting, organizations need to go beyond neutrality to become anti-racist, unionized, mission-focused workplaces.
